DPVA Statement on the Election Results from VA-01, VA-02, and VA-07

by Democratic Party of Virginia

Democratic Party of Virginia (DPVA) Chairwoman Susan Swecker released the following statements after the race was called in Virginia’s 1st, 2nd, and 7th  congressional races:

Matt Rowe, Democratic Candidate in Virginia’s 1st Congressional District

“Matt Rowe brought an energy to his campaign that certainly rivaled that of Rob Wittman. He worked hard to make his voice heard, and we’re confident that he will continue to be a strong and passionate leader in his community.

“Throughout this entire election, it was clear that Rob Wittman had his eyes elsewhere: the 2017 gubernatorial race. It’s disappointing to see a sitting U.S. Congressman treat the people of the 1st Congressional District as a back-up if he loses the Republican primary.”

Shaun Brown, Democratic Candidate in Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District

“Shaun Brown sought to put her business experience and achievements to work for all Virginians. As this race comes to an end we’re confident that she will continue her work in communities in Hampton Roads.”

Eileen Bedell, Democratic Candidate in Virginia’s 7th Congressional District

“Eileen Bedell’s impressive congressional campaign was as hard-fought as they come. Eileen was laser-focused on ending obstruction in Congress that members like Dave Brat champion, and her fight cannot end now. Her campaign will have a lasting effect on the 7th Congressional District as her message of supporting our veterans, diversifying our economy, and protecting our environment will continue to drive her passion.”
