RICHMOND, Va. – Democratic Party of Virginia Chairwoman Susan Swecker released the following statement today regarding Virginia’s $132 million surplus at the end of the 2017 fiscal year:

“This surplus demonstrates the strong leadership of Governor McAuliffe, who has worked tirelessly to diversify the Virginia economy and grow Virginia’s revenue. Not only are we ending the fiscal year with a surplus, but June 2017 saw the highest state revenue - $2.2 billion - in Virginia’s history. This prudent fiscal management has driven Virginia to jump six spots in CNBC’s Top States For Business ranking, and is a decisive refutation of Ed Gillespie’s doomsday narrative about Virginia’s economy. With these strong economic results, Virginians have all the more reason to elect another Democratic Governor in 2017 to build on Governor McAuliffe’s success.”
