The fallout from Ed Gillespie’s recent admission that he would both defund Planned Parenthood and campaign with Vice President Mike Pence has upended the race for Governor — and put Gillespie’s anti-woman agenda front and center. Bustle called the pledge to defund Planned Parenthood “anexplosive announcement” given that Gillespie has dodged the question for years, while Rewire reported that “Gillespie’s threat to defund Planned Parenthood is far from hollow in a state with a legislature dominated by anti-choice Republicans”

Most ominously for the Gillespie campaign, reporters noted that Gillespie’s pledge to defund Planned Parenthood is set to haunt him for the rest of the campaign. As Fox 5’s Ronica Cleary noted, Gillespie’s newest position is set to be a top concern with voters, staying that “when voters go to the ballot they are certainly thinking about it because, depending on who the governor is, this issue [of Planned Parenthood defunding] could become very real.”

So when voters go to the ballot they are certainly thinking about it because, depending on who the governor is, this issue could become very real.”
