Second Week of Dodging from Gillespie on Trump Scandals

by Christina Freundlich

Last Week, Gillespie Bragged About His Ties to Trump Administration in Radio Interview

Then Came An Uncomfortable Week of Gillespie Dodging Comment on James Comey

Both Democratic Candidates for Governor Have Called for Special Prosecutor

Right now, Donald Trump is waging a war with no regard for the truth, the law or the checks and balances of our democracy.

So what does Ed Gillespie stand on that? We don’t know, of course.

Last week, Gillespie had an uncomfortable few days of dodging questions about the firing of James Comey over the dangerous, transparent move to interfere with the FBI’s investigation into the possible collusion with Russia during the election.

But prior to that, he bragged about his close ties to the Trump administration in a radio interview, claiming that he has “a lot of friends, obviously, working in this administration -- in the White House.”

Yet, with news out this week that Trump leaked classified information to Russia and asked Comey to kill the investigation into former national security advisor Michael Flynn -- Gillespie is still silent.

“As he vies to be Virginia’s next chief executive, Ed Gillespie needs to come forward and call for a special prosecutor just as Ralph Northam and Tom Perriello have,” said DPVA spokeswoman Christina Freundlich. “The evidence is mounting by the day, and as long as Gillespie stays silent on the matter, Virginians will continue to see Gillespie and Republicans alike for putting party over country.”
