Virginia Democrats Statement On First Democratic Presidential Debate

by Democratic Party of Virginia

Tonight, hundreds of Virginia Democrats gathered at watch parties to see a presidential field united in endorsing economic solutions that will benefit middle class Americans. Democratic candidates, in a spirited and substantive debate, provided relief from a Republican field that would prioritize only the wealthiest Americans.
After losing an average of 750,000 jobs a month when George W. Bush left office, the economy has seen 67 consecutive months of private sector job growth under Democratic leadership. Yet, Republican candidates have proposed disastrous tax plans that give massive breaks to millionaires and wealthy corporations while balancing the budget on the backs of hard-working families.
"Tonight, our Democratic candidates showed that they share common values for moving the country forward and will make the middle class a top priority. Their ideas were a welcome contrast to the GOP debates, where Republicans raced to take our country back to failed policies of the past," said Democratic Party of Virginia Chairwoman Susan Swecker.
