The Central Virginia Land Conservancy (CVALC) holds conservation easements in Amherst and four other nearby counties. This year, the organization will hold its annual Cornerstone Celebration on April 5 at the Elston Inn & Conference Center at Sweet Briar College in Amherst. You are invited to attend and meet the volunteers who work to preserve forests, farms, and viewsheds in our part of Virginia. At the Celebration event, CVALC honors a citizen who has worked over the years to protect our natural resources. This year, Senator Creigh Deeds will be recognized for his support of land conservation in the Virginia legislature for more than two decades. In 1999, he wrote and co-sponsored legislation that led to the creation of Virginia's Land Preservation Tax Credit Program. More than one million acres have been protected under this program - five times the size of Shenandoah National Park.
The event will feature dinner and live music. For more information and to purchase tickets, go to Cornerstone Celebration - CENTRAL VIRGINIA LAND CONSERVANCY.
