RICHMOND, VA – On what would have been his 62nd birthday, the Democratic Party of Virginia joins Virginians in solemn remembrance of the late Congressman A. Donald McEachin, a distinguished statesman, advocate, and trailblazer who dedicated his life to public service.

“Congressman McEachin was so much more than an exemplary public servant, he was also a personal friend to me and to so many across our commonwealth. On this day, as we celebrate what would have been his 62nd birthday, we reflect on the indomitable spirit and enduring legacy of a man who played a pivotal role in shaping Virginia's political landscape. His family is in our thoughts today. He is still greatly missed” said Susan Swecker, Chairwoman of the Democratic Party of Virginia.

Congressman McEachin was a stalwart representative of the Democratic Party, leaving an indelible mark on the commonwealth’s political history. From his years in the Virginia General Assembly to his tenure in the United States House of Representatives, McEachin exemplified unwavering commitment, resilience, and a passion for environmental justice.

As the first African American nominated by a major party for Virginia attorney general and the third African American elected to Congress from Virginia since the 19th century, McEachin shattered barriers and paved the way for a more inclusive Virginia.

The Democratic Party of Virginia honors the memory of Congressman A. Donald McEachin on his 62nd birthday. We remember his enduring spirit, his dedication to public service, and the transformative influence he had on Virginia and the nation.
