DPVA Statement Following Gubernatorial Debate

RICHMOND, Va. – Democratic Party of Virginia Chairwoman Susan Swecker issued the following statement following tonight’s Democratic gubernatorial debate between Lt. Governor Ralph Northam and the Hon. Tom Perriello:

"Under the administration of Governor Terry McAuliffe, Virginia's unemployment rate is at its lowest point in nearly nine years. Throughout his term, the governor has sent a resounding message to the nation that Virginia does not discriminate, and our economy is stronger for it.

"As they discussed how to build on that progress, both Tom and Ralph carried themselves with civility, respect and grace. We saw two men who earnestly wish to build upon the progress of the last four years. Though they may differ on the best way to get there, they have the same values and same goal.

"Now more than ever, Virginia's progress is under threat, which is why we must elect a Democratic governor who will continue to fight for our families and our future. We are the party of hardworking people fighting for hardworking people, and both Tom and Ralph are bold leaders in that shared fight.”
