DPVA Statement on Governor McAuliffe's State of the Commonwealth Address

Chairwoman Susan Swecker of the Democratic Party of Virginia issued the following statement on Governor McAuliffe's State of the Commonwealth Address:

"Governor McAuliffe has been unrelenting in his efforts to grow Virginia's economy to provide opportunity for all of its citizens, and tonight he showed that he'll be working even harder to build upon that progress over the next two years. The Governor has brought jobs to Virginia, lowered the unemployment rate, made Virginia the most Veteran-friendly state in the country, and he's just getting started.

"As we move forward, I echo the Governor's call to work together to enhance the lives of Virginians by expanding Medicaid, protecting women's access to health care, rejecting discrimination toward our LGBT brothers and sisters and their families, implementing commonsense policies on gun violence, and working to curb the disastrous effects of climate change.
"As a life-long Virginian, I've had the privilege of seeing our great Commonwealth transform into a place that's more welcoming and open to people, ideas, and businesses than ever before. These historic changes would not have been possible if it weren't for our Democrats in the state's top offices. We must not take Governor McAuliffe's efforts, and the efforts of our Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam and Attorney General Mark Herring for granted. Elections matter and that is evidenced by the progress Virginia has made over the past two years."
