by Democratic Party of Virginia

RICHMOND, VA – Tonight, Virginia Delegate and Senator-elect, Lamont Bagby, won the special election to fill the unexpired term of Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, who resigned from the Virginia Senate after voters elected her as the first Black woman to represent the Commonwealth of Virginia in the U.S. House.

“Senator-elect Bagby’s experience in the House of Delegates and his leadership as the Chair of the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus will guide him well as he continues his service on behalf of Virginians in SD-09,” said Liam Watson, Press Secretary for the Democratic Party of Virginia. “The Senator-elect will build on Congresswoman McClellan’s contributions to the Commonwealth, and we can’t wait to see the great work he does in the Virginia Senate.”
