RICHMOND, VA — According to a new poll by the Wason Center for Public Policy at Christopher Newport University, Democrats not only hold a 15% enthusiasm advantage, but currently lead in five Republican congressional seats.
The poll, which was conducted by veteran Virginia pollsters Dr. Quentin Kidd and Dr. Rachel Bitecofer, shows Democratic candidates beating Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-1) by 21 points, Congressman Scott Taylor (VA-2) by 5 points, Congressman Dave Brat (V-7) by 28 points, Congresswoman Barbara Comstock (VA-10) by 10 points, and winning the open seat to replace Congressman Bob Godlatte (VA-6) by 3 points.
In an interview with Jenna Portnoy of the Washington Post, the pollster, Dr. Bitecofer declared “the question is no longer whether there is a blue wave coming, but rather, how high the storm surge will get."
Other striking findings from the poll include that 60% of Virginia Democrats are "very enthusiastic" about voting in November, compared to just 45% of Republicans. Additionally, Virginia voters, by a 25 point margin, disapprove of Donald Trump's performance as President, and also disapprove of his Billionaire Tax Cut.
“The findings of this poll are consistent with the Democratic energy and excitement that we are seeing across the Commonwealth as Virginia fights back against this most disastrous of presidencies.,” said DPVA Chairwoman Susan Swecker. “Donald Trump got crushed here in 2016, got sent a thunderous message with our sweeping victories in 2017, and his approval rating is about where the Titanic was when it was found. There is no question that this November, Trump loyalists like Barbara Comstock, Dave Brat, and Scott Taylor will be swept out of Congress by another blue Virginia wave.”
