National Pollster Public Policy Polling today said today that 65% of Virginians support Governor McAuliffe’s order to restore voting rights to more than 200,000 former felons who have completed their sentences.
“Terry McAuliffe's executive order restoring felon voting rights is proving to be very popular- 65% of voters support it to only 26% who are opposed. It has overwhelming support from both Democrats (85/10) and independents (61/29) and even Republicans (43/45) are pretty evenly divided.” – PPP
Despite the Republican demagoguery and divisiveness on the issue, Virginians recognize the the Governor's order was the morally right thing to do. Perhaps these numbers will convince the GOP to drop their hateful and incendiary rhetoric and work to earn the vote of individuals who have done their time and are now working, raising families and paying taxes. The numbers show overwhelming support with democrats and independents, as well as broad support from Republicans.
Public Policy Polling is widely considered one of the most accurate and well-regarded polling firms in the nation.
