Richmond, VA — Following President Biden’s historic joint address to Congress, Democratic Party of Virginia Chair Susan Swecker released the following statement:
“On the eve of the 100th day of the Biden-Harris administration, Virginians are benefiting immensely from competent Democratic leadership. Six million Virginians have received a dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Millions of Virginians have received $1,400 checks and other economic benefits from the American Rescue Plan to help them make ends meet during the pandemic. Tens of thousands of Virginia children stand to be lifted out of poverty thanks to the expanded Child Tax Credit. President Biden and Democrats in Congress have delivered on their promises to get our commonwealth and country back on track.
Tonight President Biden took the next step and outlined the most ambitious agenda to improve the lives of working Americans since the New Deal. The American Jobs Plan will invest in vital infrastructure to expand broadband to all Virginians, fix our roads and bridges, fight climate change, and create good-paying jobs across the commonwealth. The American Families Plan will ensure working parents have affordable child care and provide universal pre-kindergarten that will make the next generation healthier and more successful. It will guarantee Americans can care for a loved one or take time off when they're sick without sacrificing their job. And it will lower health care costs for millions by shoring up the Affordable Care Act.
As President Biden said tonight, 'America is on the move again.' The past 100 days have shown that Democrats are focused on rebuilding the middle class and delivering tangible results for Americans and their families. With so much more to accomplish, I’m looking forward to the Biden-Harris administration and Democrats at every level continuing to fight for working families by advancing this bold agenda.”
