RICHMOND, VA – Recently, the Republican-controlled U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass broad cuts to federal spending, which threaten to cut medical care for 162,300 Virginia Veterans.
After the passage of these cuts, Charley Conrad, Chairman of the Democratic Party of Virginia’s Veterans’ Caucus, released the following statement:
“As Chair of the Veterans and Military Families Caucus of the Democratic Party of Virginia, I feel compelled to speak out on behalf of all Virginia Veterans and their Military Family members who will be directly impacted by the cuts passed by Republicans in the U.S. House.
As MAGA Republicans attempt to hold the country hostage with the looming specter of default, they have chosen to ransom Veterans and their Military Families. Every Republican member of Virginia’s congressional delegation voted in favor of gutting Veterans’ healthcare – including Congresswoman Jen Kiggans, who represents one of the largest populations of Veterans and Military Families in the entire country.
President Biden, Vice President Harris, and our entire Democratic congressional delegation have tirelessly fought to protect Veterans’ benefits. The Democratic Party is the party that will stand up and fight for those who fought for us, and we condemn these GOP-led attacks on our Veterans in the strongest possible terms.”
