Event signals Sears’ extreme agenda to roll back rights, kill Virginia jobs, and enact dangerous policies

VIRGINIA – Tonight, Winsome Earle-Sears is scheduled to campaign with Kevin Roberts, President of the Heritage Foundation and architect of Project 2025, an extreme, far-right blueprint that laid the groundwork for the Trump Administration’s attacks on Virginia’s economy and the jobs of thousands of Virginians.

“Winsome Earle-Sears speaking at tonight’s event with Project 2025 architect Kevin Roberts signals her extreme agenda and highlights her extreme record, which is wrong for Virginia. While Virginians deserve a governor who puts the Commonwealth first, Sears is choosing to stand with the mastermind behind the Trump Administration’s attacks on Virginia jobs and Virginia’s economy,” said DPVA Spokesperson Maggie Amjad.

Winsome Earle-Sears has defended Trump’s attacks on Virginia’s workforce and economy.

• She told the Associated Press that she backed Trump’s efforts and she doubled down.
• She also said Virginians facing layoffs will “be all right.”
• The Youngkin-Sears administration’s response to workers at risk of losing their jobs was “update your resume.”
• As Donald Trump attacked Virginia's workforce and economy, Sears declared she would help Trump “get the job done” if she were governor. 
• Sears has also said “I’m supporting what the President is doing.” 

Winsome Earle-Sears has dismissed and laughed off attacks on Virginia jobs over and over again.

• Winsome Earle-Sears was caught on tape dismissing and laughing off the attacks on Virginia jobs saying “the media is making it out to be a huge, huge thing… and I don’t understand why.” 

  • When a reporter asked about her comments exposed by Meidas Touch, Sears doubled down and said her message to Virginians facing layoffs is “Don’t despair. Please go to the website.”

• Instead of standing up to attacks on Virginia jobs, Sears told Virginians facing layoffs “don’t fret.” 
• Sears also said “just about everybody has lost a job … It is life happening.” 

Winsome Earle-Sears has a dangerous record on contraception and abortion. 

• Sears “couldn’t resist” voting against this legislation to guarantee Virginia women’s access to contraception.
• She refused to answer questions from the media about her tie-breaking vote denying Virginians access to contraception and birth control.
• Sears supports an extreme six week abortion ban similar to the law that took effect in Texas that bans abortion before most women know they are pregnant.
• Sears has said that she would support an abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest.

  • January 2021: The Winchester Star reported that Sears said she wanted to make abortion illegal in all cases, unless the life of the mother was at risk.

• Sears vowed to “do everything in [her] power” to end abortion in Virginia.

  • Sears’ 2021 lieutenant governor campaign website: “I will do everything in my power to stop this act from taking place in Virginia.”
  • Sears attempted to scrub this abortion section from her website around September 2021.
     

• Sears has declared she is “standing shoulder to shoulder” with the far-right fight against IVF.

Winsome Earle-Sears has a long record of supporting legislation that would cut funding from Virginia’s public schools.

• Sears has repeatedly tried to defund public education. 
• She also supports using taxpayer dollars for private schools.
