RICHMOND, VA – Glenn Youngkin has remained relentless in his mission to force an abortion ban on women across Virginia. After seeing his MAGA Republican neighbors in North Carolina successfully strip away women’s ability to make their own health care decisions, Youngkin is renewing his call to do the same in our Commonwealth.
After repeatedly failing earlier this year, Youngkin yesterday revived his push to ban abortion in Virginia.
ABC13: “I am really focused as I'm trying to serve all Virginians and bringing us around a bill to protect life at 15 weeks. I think we can get it done."
On top of restricting Virginia women’s access to abortion, Youngkin’s abortion ban would threaten doctors with up to 10 years of jail time and a potential $100,000 fine.
WRIC: “Under the legislation filed by Byron, physicians who perform or attempt to perform abortions after that threshold would face a Class 4 felony that carries a sentence of up to 10 years and a possible $100,000 fine.”
Youngkin has already signaled that he’s willing to go even further than this bill, saying he’d “happily and gleefully” sign “any bill” to restrict a woman’s ability to make her own health care decisions.
Washington Post: “‘Any bill that comes to my desk I will sign happily and gleefully in order to protect life,” he said in an online forum organized by the Family Foundation of Virginia to celebrate the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.”
Washington Post: “A video late Wednesday [showed] GOP gubernatorial nominee Glenn Youngkin saying that he has to limit his anti-abortion comments on the campaign trail for fear of alienating Virginia's independent voters but that he would go ‘on offense’ if he wins office and Republicans take a majority in the House of Delegates.”
